|SMARTPHONE SALE SURPASES PC SALE IN 2011|
More smartphones than traditional PC’s were sold last year according to research agency Canalys. The smartphone sale outnumbered the pc market in such a way, that even by including the sale of computer tablets in the pc market, the total sales wouldn’t even come close. This last statement was made by technology website The Verge.
A total of 487,7 milion smartphones were sold in 2011. This is approximately 60% more than a year ago. Computer sale was passed thanks to this growth. PC sale was a total of 414,6 milion devices, which included the sale of computer tablets.
Canalys does not expect the growth for the smartphone market to persist. Smartphone makers will shift their focus to more expensive products and will release fewer devices. Microsoft already warned last month for a decline in the pc market in 2012.
