The organization of the Aruba Chamber of Commerce & Industry
The day to day activities of the Chamber are supervised by its Board of Directors. This Board consists of nine members, of whom five members represent businesses with an invested capital of Afl. 100,000 or more (large businesses), and four members represent small businesses.
From the Chamber’s building at J.E. Irausquin Boulevard 10, Oranjestad the daily operations of the Chamber are headed by an Executive Director. The Executive Director is delegated by the Board of Directors to handle the execution of Chamber policy and the handling of all Chamber activities. The operations comprise the following departments: the Registers, Business Information and Support, the Secretariat, Information Communication & Technologies (ICT) and the Financial Administration, and is staffed by 19 full-time employees including the Executive Director.
Annual Election of Board Members
Eligibility for a board position is restricted to those persons who are 25 years in the year of the election and older, possess the Dutch nationality and have been a resident of Aruba for at least two years immediately preceding their candidacy. The members take seat for three years. Yearly three members resign by rotation and are re-eligible at once. The members moreover may resign at any time, as a consequence of which by-elections must be held.
Eligibility for the voters’ list are entrepreneurs, residing in Aruba, who have the Dutch Nationality and appear in Trade Register as owner, partner, director, or general proxy for at least 1 (one) year preceding the date of compilation.
The election committee is in charge of the election process. The rules and requirements for the election process, e.g. voters’ lists, candidacy and ballot casting, are stipulated in the Election Ordinance of the Aruba Chamber of Commerce – Kiesverordening Kamer van Koophandel en Nijverheid (AB 1993 no. The voting for the periodic Board Election 2024 for small busineses (kleinbedrijf) will take place on December 10, 2024, starting at 9:00 till 12:00 noon in the Auditorium of the Aruba Chamber of Commerce. The candidates are: Mrs. J. Correa and Mrs. R. Solognier-van Dinter.
