After the devastation created by Hurricane Irma in September 2017, Sint Maarten is rebuilding with the help of the Sint Maarten Recovery Reconstruction and Resilience Trust Fund, financed by the government of the Netherlands and managed by the World Bank.

The government of Sint Maarten has listed the damages, estimated at US$ 1.38 billion, in a recovery plan

The National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP)’ which also serves as a roadmap for the investment decisions of the $550 million Sint Maarten Recovery Reconstruction and Resilience Trust Fund. The top priorities of the NRRP are the basic needs of the people of Sint Maarten; such as food, shelter, health and livelihoods.  The plan also focuses on a medium and longer-term approach to revitalize the economy in a sustainable manner. The projects that are currently being funded from the Sint Maarten Recovery Reconstruction and Resilience Trust Fund are aimed at sustainable strengthening of infrastructure as well as waste collection and processing.
