Aruba, December 19, 2012 - Rapid growth in emerging markets has dramatically increased demand for commodities, so prices should continue to rise. Although companies are already feeling the effects—which will persist if not intensify—they could find a way out by using resources more productively. McKinsey’s experience suggests, for example, that manufacturers can not only cut their consumption of materials by 30 percent but also recycle and reuse them much more extensively. That’s why companies should transform their supply chains into supply circles, which loop used materials back into production.
